The
Eighth Gathering Of Circles Planning
Meeting Report March 16, 2002

Dear Planning Meeting Attendees,
The Planning Meeting for the Eighth Gathering of Circles event was held on March 16, 2002 at the home of Cathy and Jerry Bailes in Abilene, Texas. Fourteen attended. Thank you again Cathy and the Abilene people for hosting us! It was a very good meeting and we accomplished a lot. Pamela opened the meeting with a beautiful arrangement with her flute. The pipe ceremony followed with a discussion of why our pipe ceremony has changed to keeping the pipe closed and Pamela also related some very personal information about her illness and the two powerful sessions with Beth Hin on Tuesday and Friday of this week concerning the concept of Mercy. Brett discussed some of the major events which are happening around the globe and the impact the GOC is having on the world at large.
Cliff followed with a financial report and after much discussion, the following modifications to our budget were made: 1) the speaker stipend was raised from $200 to $300 and 2) the advertising budget was raided from $25 to $100. Cash on hand was reported to be $1593 and was audited by Cliff and Jim Beam. Cliff presented a financial of income and expenditures which will be made available to anyone who requests it. Cliff provided a complete list of GOC members to everyone.

Children's Activity Coordinator - Kelly Knox, Cathy Bails, Donna Kirby
Forest Service Permit Coordinator - KiethLee Camp
Welcome Table Coordinator - KiethLee Camp, Barbara Harris
Two new positions were created. They are:
Raffle Coordinator - Brett Messer
Clean-up Coordinator - unfilled
Cliff reported the results of the very brief website poll of the T-shirt designs for this year. Much discussion resulted of the various relative advantages and disadvantages of each design. Finally, the design submitted by Connie Williams (#7) was selected for the T-shirt logo for 2002. Congratulations Connie!
Discussion was initiated by Cliff about the additional events which have been presented by Drumsong (Cliff, Brett, and Pamela) in the past. Cliff proposed that the responsibility for these events (Spring Dance or Vision Quest, Before Father's Day Men's Weekend, and Healing Hearts be with the Gathering of Circles and not just Drumsong. Everyone agreed that this would be a good thing to do because it would involve more participation and ensure the longevity of these events.
The energy of this years GOC is growing! We have two people who have stepped up to the plate big time! Shawn Blue and Jim Beam have never been to a Gathering but they have heard the calling to serve. Jim has never even been to a sweat lodge yet is willing to lead that endeavor! These two and all our coordinators need all the help they can get.
The meeting closed about 6:00 pm with a song led by Pamela. (It's in Everyone of Us) Those attending were Cliff Buchanan, KiethLee Camp, Brett Messer, Pamela Scheler, Carolyn Milton, Shawn Blue, Van LeBus, Jim Beam, Gary Rogers, Donna & Steve Kirby, Cathy & Jerry Bails, Connie Williams. Ann Postma joined us for the evening pot luck.
