Planning Meeting for 2002
Dear Hearts,
2001 has been a hard year for some of us in the community of the GOC. Carol Dawn slipped on the ice before Christmas and broke her leg, had to be operated on and has been recovering here in Odessa. She will be able to return to her teaching in Tsaile AZ next week. Susan Murray (now Royal - she was married on September 22) lost her son and her Father to cancer within a month of each other. Pamela Scheler learned she had aggressive breast cancer in September and has been treated with chemotherapy and will have a mastectomy on January 22. I am sure there are other stories I am not aware of. These events coupled with 9-11 are a hard pill to swallow.
However, I am encouraged by the resilience of the human Spirit. And I am encouraged by the Spirit of the community of the Gathering Of Circles in the concern and in the action displayed in relation to these events. Many from the GOC came to Susan's son's funeral in Odessa. A financial aid fund has been set up for Pamela to help with the financial burden of medical costs. I think I speak for all of us when I say 2002 will be a much better year.

Therefore, it is time to look into 2002 to see what we can see, to work toward a better year and to make this year the best GOC ever. Many of us have been traveling our own spiritual path quietly for many years. Now it is time to come out of the closet and step up to the plate and practice redistributing our hard gained knowledge and experience. We need someone to host the Planning Meeting. This person will set the date of the meeting. It needs to be in March if possible. I will send another notice announcing the date and location of the meeting. The planning meeting is not where we begin to start planning… it is where we finalize the planning. We need you to volunteer now for the various coordinator positions, for a workshop, for whatever you feel drawn to contribute. Please volunteer for a position you have not done before or for something when… up to now... you have not yet participated in the various positions available. And do it now, before the planning meeting.
If you can't come to the planning meeting, please send your suggestions via e-mail or snail mail. If you want a specific item discussed, send it to me and I will add it to our agenda. And be sure to explain your position.

One of the most important decisions made at the planning meeting is the selection of the current years logo. Please get your submissions in before the meeting. The design needs to be an original design depicting some aspect of the Gathering Of Circles. It needs to be on an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper (so we can scan it easily) and needs to be limited to four colors so that we can keep the price of our t-shirts affordable.

Dear Friends of Pamela Scheler,
Pamela was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in September. Fortunately there is not evidence that the cancer has spread beyond her left breast. Because of the aggressiveness and severity of this type of cancer they are using the big guns of chemotherapy with Pamela – Adriamycin and Cyotoxin. The medical plan is for Pamela to have 4 treatments of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, more chemotherapy and maybe radiation – a year's plan. Pamela is doing everything she can to support her well being – meditation, ceremony, alternative medicines, and is open to alternative treatments. The cost of this is great. Insurance only covers part of the costs and the alternative treatments are not covered by insurance. Carol Dawn and I have an idea of how to help. We checked with Pamela and Brett and they were deeply touched and relieved. If each of us gives a little each month that makes for a lot of financial help. Help to cover expenses not covered by insurance, to provide opportunities for alternative treatments, and support so Brett can be there when Pamela needs him.
The plan is to contribute each month for 12 months to an account in Pamela’s name and then to assess what is needed next or to change our efforts before the end of the 12 months. Some of you may wish to contribute monthly, others every 3 months, others all at once, etc. It is important to Pamela and Brett that each friend takes care of them and only contributes if it is wise for them financially. And, they know and greatly appreciate how you are already contributing to them in powerful and wonderful ways.
