Spring Celebration Dance presented by Drumsong April 27 - April
30, 2000 Thursday night
through Sunday noon |
Come join us
for a time of joy, music, beauty, creativity, and renewal. Hummingbird brings
energy to replenish our spirit and the magic of life. |
Hummingbird
Medicine
brings the message of joy. In Mayan teachings, hummingbird is connected to the
Fifth World and to the heart chakra. Many teachers believe that we have entered
into a time that was prophesized long ago through many diverse teachings. With
the coming of the new century we have the capability and responsibility to open
our hearts to the joy and compassion that will transform the earth and all
beings who live here.
Arrive
Thursday evening to set up camp, shift gears, meet fellow participants,
socialize, and get ready for a weekend of celebration and transformation.
Friday morning: Opening
Pipe Ceremony: facilitated by Pamela Lightsong Scheler to honor
the directions and create a sacred space and atmosphere for the weekend events.
Ice
Breakers:
Pamela and Brett will present games and activities that challenge our
creativity as well as provide hummingbird joy and pure fun. Bring your
adventurous spirit!
Friday afternoon:
·
Language of the Fifth World: Guest speaker Carol
WhiteWater Dawn will share her experiences and insights into the
prophecies that are now becoming reality. The circle will then be open for
discussion on creating and living in the Fifth World with an open heart.
·
Storytelling: Tribes and cultures throughout time have utilized myths and stories to
teach, hold history, and share wisdom. Brett Messer will
share timely stories with us.
·
Shamanic Drumming: Cliff will use the beat of the
drum to take us on a journey where we can experience other realms and meet our
power animal, seek answers from our guides, or just relax into the heartbeat of
the drum.
Friday evening: Sweat
Lodge: Brett will lead the sweat lodge ceremony. This is a
purification of the mind and body. It reminds us of the relationship of all
beings and helps to bind us together as one Spirit. Wear loose comfortable
clothing such as a large T-shirt and shorts or swimsuit. Bring a towel to sit
on. Bring sacred objects to place on the altar.
Saturday: Morning Circle: Bring drums,
rattles, noisemakers of every kind! Let us begin the day by invoking
hummingbird magic with a burst of sound energy.
Saturday: Dance Mask: Discover your hidden self.
The morning will consist of being guided in the process of creating a face
mask, one for yourself and one for your partner. After the initial masks are
made and drying we will break for lunch. In the afternoon a guided meditation
will take you to meet, “face to face”, the image of what you are to create
through the design and decoration of your mask. It could be the face of your
higher power, the face of joy, the face of fear, or the face of compassion.
What will it be for you? After the meditation there will be materials (paint,
glue, ribbons, feathers, etc.) available to create your vision. Bring any
special decorations that you may wish to use or share with others. Dance your
mask at the evening dance. (A $5.00 fee is requested to cover the cost of
materials.)
Saturday evening: Spring
Celebration Dance! Ceremonial dance is an opportunity, in a safe
and sacred space, to allow your inner self to come forward and be expressed. It
begins at dusk. Your drums, rattles, bells, and noisemakers of every kind will
set the stage for a night of joyful dancing and celebration! Wear and dance
your mask. Bring and wear special clothing, shawls, jewelry, whatever expresses
you, anything that makes you feel like dancing! This is the time to Dance Your
Sacred Dance!!
Sunday morning: Give-away Ceremony:
This is
a group experience of sharing and processing. Bring something of significance
(meaningful) to you, which you now want to “give away” or relinquish your
attachment to, something to pass to a new keeper. The size or monetary value of
this item is irrelevant. Importance is determined through your knowing what is
to be released. Listen to your heart in deciding what to “give-away” and in
what to “carry-away” from this ceremony.
Sunday noon: Breaking the pipe and
closing the circle of ceremony is followed by a Feast. Bring your favorite dish or
pot luck to share with the group in traditional community manner.
